UPDATE ON SOCKTOBER MISSION AUSTRALIA!
In one week we have raised $61.00 to go towards building a toilet at a school for those less fortunate than us. Mrs Burke and Miss Grima would like to thank those who have raised money for this special cause. We are proud of those students who have worked hard to earn their money.
Stephanie has worked extremely hard at home, completing chores around the house to earn money for Socktober. Well done!
SOCKTOBER
Socktober is an initiative of Catholic Mission and one way which OUR CLASS is fundraising and engaging in advocacy and formation activities for Catholic Mission during World Mission Month in October, or at other times throughout the year. Our goal is to raise $50.00 towards funding a toilet for the less fortunate children. We are trying our best to raise double that for two toilets.
Well done to the following students who have reached over 100 Dojos. They deserved a scrumptious morning tea!
What a great start to our Ancient Civilization PBL!
Year 3 have started our new PBL task on Creative Arts in designing symbols from our chosen Ancient Civilization. We researched the symbol and found out what our symbols represents. Here are a few below.
IT'S MULTICULTURAL DAY IN YEAR 3
In relation to our PBL unit 'Who Will Buy?', Year 3 students, parents and teachers celebrated Multicultural Day. Students made or bought lovely dishes of food from the culture they were studying, and all students had a chance to present their PBL's. Thank you to ALL who took the time to come to our wonderful day, and those who made the delicious food.
We LOVE Reading!
It was such a beautiful day that we decided to read outside, and enjoy the beautiful nature surrounding us.
YES! WE HAVE TALENT!
Congratulations Ben, Jude and Chris on a FANTASTIC act in the talent quest! It was so AWESOME that we had to record it in class today!

'THE BEST ARTISTS ARE THOSE WHO WORK IN SILENCE'
In relation to our NEW PBL on 'Hot and Cold', we designed a warm coloured background using red, orange and yellow colours. We then painted a gumtree inspired by Albert Namatjira. You can tell we are doing our best work because we were silent and concentrating. Our artworks are still not completed, so stay tuned and watch this space for our completed artworks!
IT'S ALL ABOUT ALBERT NAMATJIRA!
In relation to our PBL focus on National Parks, we are learning about one of Australia's famous Artists in Creative Arts who is known for his Central Australian Landscapes.
Using watercolour paint, we practised drawing mountains learning new skills and techniques.

ITS MOTHERS DAY IN YEAR 3
Today we celebrated Mothers Day, with Mothers and Grandmothers coming in to read with us, and see all of the work we have done this year so far.
Thank you Mothers & Grandmothers for celebrating with us!
WE LOVE HOMOPHONES!
Today Mrs Burke and Miss Grima gave Year 3 an editing passage on Homophones. As a class, we edited the passage, and wrote the right Homophone. We now know that Homophones sound the same, but are spelt differently, and have a different meaning. When editing our work, we MUST remember to look over our spelling to make sure our Homophones are in the right context.

THE 6 DEBONO THINKING HATS
In Year 3, we have been using the 6 deBono Thinking Hats in Religion.
We have been learning about the Journey to Emmaus, and to help assist us with our learning, we use these hats.
We have focused on the Red Thinking hat which involves feelings.
As soon as we put the red thinking hat on, we can direct our thinking to how Jesus, the Disciples or the two men felt during this Journey.
Today we put ourselves in Jesus' shoes and shared how we would have felt if we were Jesus during the road to Emmaus.
Click on the following link for more information about deBono Hats.

OUR COMMUNITY PBL IS FINISHED!

CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY!
St Matthews participated in Clean Up Australia Day on Friday 27th February. Every grade cleaned up a different part of the school. Year 3 walked down to the river in partners. We placed our gloves on and started picking up rubbish. We separated the rubbish and recycling into different coloured bags. Even though it was a very hot afternoon, we were happy because we did our part for the community! Next week we will be writing a letter to our council about littering and how it affects the environment and ecosystem. Keep an eye out on this blog!
OUR COMMUNITY PBL!
Our PBL (Project Based Learning) is well and truly underway with students in year 3 working very hard to complete their task. In the past few weeks students have been critically thinking, collaborating and communicating ideas within their group, and creatively thinking of ideas to present their PBL. Students have been assigned a variety of roles within their groups and have signed a contract- this ensures all students are working equally and collectively.

Wow Year 3!
ReplyDeleteYou certainly have been working hard. Look at all the interesting activities you have been doing so far this year. I have loved working with you all on your PBLs. You have even taught me things I never knew before! Keep up the wonderful work
